stress

stress is defined as the restoring force developed in the body per unit area.

stress=Force/Area.

SI unit is N/m^2 or pascal.

There are three types of stress:longitudinal stress,volume stress and shearing stress.

strain

strain is the ratio of change in dimension to original dimension.It has no unit.

strain=change in dimension/original dimension.

also,there are three types of strain: longitudinal,volume and shearing strain.
