Answer:

Stress- : It is the force acting per unit area of cross section of the deformed body.

\sf{Stress =  \frac{internal \: restoring \: force}{area \: of \: cross \: section} =  \frac{F_{Internal}}{A}  =  \frac{F_{Internal}}{A} }

[In the case of Equilibrium]

SI UNIT:- N/m2

 \sf\bold{{Dimensions:} \:   |{M}^{1} {L}^{ - 1} {T}^{ - 2} | }

Explanation:

There are four types of stress.

These stress are as follows:-

(i) Longitudinal Stress-: When any stress is normal to the surface of the body then it is called as longitudinal stress.

(ii) Volume Stress-: If we will apply equal normal force on every unit surface of a body then there will be certain change in its volume then the force which will be opposing the change in volume per unit area is known as volume stress.

(iii) Shear Stress-: In case any stress is parallel to the surface or tangential to the surface of any body then it is known as shear stress.

(iv) Breaking Stress-: It the stress which is need to cause the actual fracture of a material.

Stress :-

● If a body get deformed under the action of an external force (Deformed force) a restoring force is developed in the body. This restoring force is equal to the magnitude but opposite in direction to the applied force.

● The restoring force per unit area is known as stress.

Mathmatically :

stress :- \frac{Restoring\:force}{Area}

Types of stress :-

There are four types of stress :-

● Normal stress :-

  • That stress in which deforming force acts perpendicular to the surface (Area) of body.

● Tensile stress :-

  • It is that Normal stress in which deforming force increase the length of the body in the direction of deformed force.

● Compressible stress :-

  • It is that Normal stress in which deforming force decrease the length of the body in the direction of deformed force.

● Tengential stress :-

  • It is that stress in which deforming force acts along parallel to the surface, It produce a change in the shape of a body.

SI Units : Pascal or N/m2
