Sublimation is the process of transition of solid directly to gaseous state.

Explanation:

1. It is the process where a substance which is in solid phase gets converted directly into gas form. There is no conversion into liquid form before the transition to gaseous state.

2. Only those solids can undergo sublimation process which have very high pressure in their triple point.

3. This is considered an endothermic process as heat is required to initiate and complete the process of sublimation.

4. Opposite of this process is called desublimation where the gaseous form is transformed to solid phase.

Examples of sublimation:

Dry ice (solid form) in presence of air gets transformed into gas form which we can see as fog.

Two substances which undergo sublimation are:

i) Naphthalene

ii) Dry ice
