Court of the District Judge Sessions Court
1. It is the highest civil court of the district. It is the highest criminal court of the district.
2. It is presided over by a District Judge. It is presided over by a Sessions Judge.
3. The District Judge decides civil cases related to land, property, money transactions, marriage, divorce and will. The Sessions Judge decided criminal cases like murders, theft, dacoity, pick-pocketing, etc.
4. The District Judge acts as a Deputy Commissioner and District Collector and he maintains law and order and supervises the collection of revenue and taxes in the district. The Sessions Judge does not perform any administrative functions.
CIVIL COURTS AND ITS FUNCTIONING - SHORTCUT
Civil courts exercise jurisdiction in the cases related to land, property and money transactions; arbitration; guardianship, marriages; divorce; and cases involving a Will. These courts are graded in the following manner:
