subsidiary cell.A plant epidermal cell that is located next to a guard cell in the stoma of a leaf and differs in structure from other epidermalcells.

The leaf and stem epidermis is covered with pores called stomata . part of stoma complex consisting of a pore surrounded on each side by chloroplasts containing guard cells and two or more subsidiary cells that lack chloroplasts
