the population of France rose rapidly from abt 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789. This led to the increase in demand for food grains. The production of grain could not keep pace with the demand.. so they increased the price of bread which was the staple diet of many.. The wages that labourers got cannot keep pace with the price.. This widened the gap between poor and rich
