subsistence crisis is an extereme situation where the basic means of livelihood are endangered .
the factors responsible for it are
1) the population of france rose from about 23 millions in 1715 to 28 million in 1789 . This led to a rapid increase in the demand for foid grains .
2) things became worse whenever drought or haul reduced the harvest .
This led to a subsistence crisis .

it is a crisis caused by economic factors ( generally high food prices) which in turn may be caused by man made it natural factorswhich threatens the food supplies and survival prospects of largenumbers of people.
