Subsistence crisis is a situation in which the basic needs of people are in danger.

In French revolution there was a subsistence crisis. As the population grew from 23 million to 28 million. That lead to increase of demand of bread!/food which was the staple diet of the people of France. So as the demand increased the rate of the bread rised up and the common people could not keep pace with the rise in prices and whenever drought or any natural disaster occurred the situations became worse which also widen the gap between the rich and poor. The people of France worked and the wages for them were set by the owner of the shop which was too less with increasing rates.
