What is substantial acquisition of shares and takeovers?

When an ''acquirer'' takes over the control or management of the ''target company'', it is known as Takeover.

When an acquirer acquires ''substantial quantity of shares or voting rights'' of the target company, it ends up in a substantial acquisition of shares. The terminology ''substantial''  is used in such a relative context.

I hope the question is answered.

Thanks
