Ruskin Bond's work titled 'The Tiger in the Tunnel' is a story about a central character who is a watchman and his experiences with a tiger hiding in a tunnel. With this in mind, Bond begins the book with Baldeo, who is a watchman. Baldeo is responsible for using the signal to tell others about obstructions that might hinder tunnel movements. He worked the night duty, making sure that the lamp continued to burn and the overland mail could pass through safely. It is here where Bond introduces another character, Tembu, who lay in the station. Both Baldeo and Tembu live in a tribal village that is three miles from the station. Baldeo was forced to get the job as a watchman because he wasn't earning enough from the rice fields. Bond injects conflict into the storyline when the signal light goes out. In addition, Baldeo hears an animal sound. His concern for Tembu heightened, because the latter was asleep unprotected. Baldeo realized that the huge body of the animal was a tiger coming towards him. Both Baldeo and the tiger fight, resulting in the tiger being injured and Baldeo dying. As the overland mail passes, the tiger is trapped in the tunnel unable to get out, especially with a wounded leg. Tembu realized that his father was death, grieved for his death, and returned to the tunnel to light the signal lamp....................
