➣Stratification: Summer
Thermal stratification is the phenomenon in which lakes develop two discrete layers of water of different temperatures: warm on top (epilimnion) and cold below (hypolimnion). Consequently, the epilimnion is often called the mixed layer.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

During summer in temperature lakes the density of the surface water decreases because of increase in its temperature three layers will be formed in the lakes
1⃣Epi limnion
2⃣Meta limnion
3⃣Hypo limnion
Epilimnion :
The upper more warm layer of lake is called Epilimnion.
Metalimnion:
Below the epilimnion is on which the temperature decreases at the rate of 1 Degree Celsius per metre in depth and it is called thermocline .
Hypolimnion:
The bottom layer is the hypolimnion Where water is relativity cool stagnant and with low oxygen content .
