With over 46,660 attendees in 2016, it is the largest independent flim festival in the United States. Held in January in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah, as well as at the Sundance Resort, the festival is a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers. The festival comprises competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary flims, both feature flims and short flimsy, and a group of out-of-competition sections, including NEXT, New Frontier, Spotlight, Midlight, Premieres and Documentary Premieres. The 2017 Sundance Flim Festival took place from January 19 to January 29, 2017
