supernova is a star that suddenly increases in brightness because of catastrophic explosion that ejects that ejects most of its mass.

supernova can breifly outshine entire galaxies and radiate more energy than our sun in its entire lifetime.

Answer:

Explanation:

Supernova is a very big explosion which is caused when a star that has mass as much as double the mass of the sun comes near to end of it's life and heavier elements like iron begun to build up in the core of the star. due to hevier element the internal pressure drops and the star's upper layer collapes and bounces with the core and explodes in a supernova. Supernova realeases huge amount of energy and harmful rays like gamma rays and x rays. The next expected supernova event is from the star Betelgeuse (aprox. 100000 years from now) which is just 642 light years away from us.
