Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here...
What is the meaning of "Swadeshi"?
Swadeshi means "Of one's own country".
The concept of Swadeshi first arose in the mind of the Moderate leader, Dadabhai Naoroji. The people who followed Swadeshi had to follow Boycott. In Swadeshi, people were required to use hand woven cloth (khadi) and boycott British goods. The ones who betrayed us (means the ones who continued buying British goods) were subjected to strict humiliation.
Assertives like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, and Lala Lajpat Rai, made Swadeshi and Boycott as their political and economic weapon to attain Swaraj (Independence for India). After the Partition of Bengal by Lord Curzon, the Indians burned down British goods. The flames were greeted by the cry of "Vande Mataram".
The Swadeshi Movement was a great nationalistic upsurge. It led to an outburst of literary culture in India. It also acted as a stimulus to many Indian industries. The Bengal Chemical Factory was started by PC Ray, the Textile Industry, Soap, Toys, Matchbox industries, etc. grew up slowly.
Gandhiji later arrived in the political struggle of India. Even he uplifted the Swadeshi Movement. He sat on Charkha and woven Khadi. He used only Indian goods.
Hope my answer is satisfactory...
Thanks!
