Sometimes, two organisms may live together for theor mutual benifits. One may provide another with food and nutrients whereas another may provide shelter. This mutual benificial relationship is called symbiosis. For example, lichen and fungi live together. Lichen provides food and fungi provides shelter and raw material to make food.

It is relationship between two organism. One organism will provide shelter to another and the another organism provide food to the that organism.

However, there are types of symbiosis that are not beneficial and may in fact harm one or both of the species.

There are four main types of symbiotic relationships: mutualism, commensalism, parasitism and competition.

Example: There may be a nutritional benefit to be gained from the symbiosis, such as with lichen. Lichen is made up of both algae and fungi, and together they provide each other with food and structure.
