When water passes across from one living cell to another living cell through plasmodesmata, then it is called the symplast pathway. It is also called the trans-membrane pathway.

Water is absorbed from roots to cortex by the two mechanism i.e apoplast and symplast pathway .

Explaination:

Symplast pathway includes water movement between the plasma membrane and the plasmodesmata connection.

This movement is generally slower.

Water movement occurs on the basis of osmosis .
