The function of the synapse is to transfer electric activity (information) from one cell to another. The transfer can be from nerve to nerve (neuro-neuro), or nerve to muscle (neuro-myo). The region between the pre- and postsynaptic membrane is very narrow, only 30-50 nm.

Answer:
- Synapse is small gap that occurs between the last portion of axon of one neuron and the dendrite of the other neuron.
- It is the passage of transfer of impulses.
- The transfer occurs as the chemicals are produced in only one side of the neuron ( axon ).
- From the axon, the impulses travel across the synapse to the dendrite of the other neuron.
- This is how information gets transferred from one neuron to the other.
--------------
- Synapse is one of the essential parts of the nervous system.
- It helps in the transfer of nerve impulses.
- The message passed through the nerve cell in the form of chemical and electrical signals are called nerve impulses.
