A nerve impulse travels from one neuron to another neuron through a junction called synapse. It is formed by the membranes of a pre-synaptic neuron and a post-synaptic neuron and may or may not be separated by synaptic cleft.

There are two types of synapses :

=>electrical synapses

=>chemical synapses.
