There are two main types of software:systems software and applicationsoftware. Systems software includes the programs that are dedicated to managing the computer itself, such as the operating system, file management utilities, and disk operating system (or DOS).

System software is a type of software which controls all the internal activities of the computer system.

It is of three types:-

• Operating system.
• Utility software.
• Device drivers.

OPERATING SYSTEM

It is a type of system software which manages all the system software. It's main function is to allow user to interact with computer by using computer's resources. Example :- Windows, Linux and many more.

UTILITY SOFTWARE

This is a type of system software which helps to analyse, configure, optimise and maintain a computer. Example :- File backup, File managing, Virus scanner and many more.

DEVICE DRIVER

It is a type of system software which directs operating system with respect to communication with hardware. It consists DVD, CD, printer and many more.
