Tachyons are hypothetical particles that can only travel faster than light. An infinite-energy tachyon, just like an infinite-energy massive normal particle, travels at c.
But a
zero-energy tachyon, rather than being at rest, travels at infinite velocity. This should make you suspicious about the tachyon’s mass, and indeed it should, because tachyons would have to possess imaginary mass. Which seems appropriate enough for what are almost certainly imaginary particles.

A tachyon or tachyonic particle is a hypothetical particle that always moves faster than light. Most physicists believe that faster-than-light particles cannot exist because they are not consistent with the known laws of physics.
