Crocker Harris is a middle - aged man who is the teacher of Taplow Mr. Crocker is a strict and discipline maintaining teacher Crocker doesn't have any feeling on the students. Taplow says that Mr. Crocker is " hardly human" and he is " not a sadist " as other few teachers.
He recognition his sense of discipline, sense of devotion and stoic nature. He has a policy that if he maintains the strict rules correctly towards students then no one will disobey him. Because of his strict nature he can get all the works done perfectly. Frank is a young man who is also a teacher asked Taplow to cut off as Mr. Crocker didn't turn up at time. But he felt scared to cut off because god knows everything after he cut off from that place.
Though he didn't tell good about his teacher he tells Frank, " The funny thing is that in spite of everything. I do rather like him I can't help it". Taplow still likes Mr. Crocker. One fine day Mr. Crocker said a poor Latin joke but no one in class laughed for that because they did not understand but Taplow since not to hurt his teacher for name sake acted like laughing.
Even though Mr. Crocker is late Millie asks him to leave and come back after a quarter of an hour but he refuses to go. Then she hands over a prescription only then he moved from that place as it was related to Mr. Crocker.

Taplow’s admiration and respects for Mr. Crocker Harris is quite high. Though Crocker Harris is very strict, yet Taplow has high regard for him. He does not consider him a sadist. He admires Crocker Harris. He does not want to make Crocker Harris angry by displeasing him in any manner. When Frank suggests him that he could play and come back as there are very bleak chances of Crocker Harris’s coming, he refuses to do so.
