What is teh difference between scalor potential and vector potential?

This is what is called the scalar potential : E → = − ∇ ϕ . Gauss's Law for Magnetism says that there are nomagnetic monopoles, or more mathematically speaking, themagnetic field doesn't diverge: ... This something is the vector potential and it has to be a vector because you take the curl of vectors and not scalars.
