- The degree or character of cohesion is termed as tenacity.
- Tenacity is classified as follows:-
- Sectile- Minerals which may be cut with knife but slices are not malleable. Example-Quartz.
- Malleable-Minerals which flatten under the hammer. Example - gold.
- Flexible-Minerals which spring back after bending. Example-copper.
- Brittle- Minerals which break easily. Example-quartz.
- Friable-Minerals which crumble easily. Example-clay.
- Pulverulent-Minerals which are powdery and have little or no cohesion.Example-polyolefin.
