Tertiary(third in order) sector, commonly known as the service sector, is a sector which does not produce goods(as produced by primary and secondary sectors) but produces services. (Hence, tertiary)
It accelerates welfare of the people along with socio-economic development of a region or a country. Such kind of growth and development is promoted by giving a large number of business opportunities to the investors, developing the primary and secondary sector, reducing regional disparities, facilitating rural development, improving the standard of living of the people, offering employment opportunities, contributing to a nation's income. Services can be broadly categorised as
Personal(domestic servants),
Professional(legal services, auditing and assurance services, etc.),
Economic or productive services(transport, irrigation,power, communication,insurance, etc),
Social or consumer oriented(education, health, housing, etc.)
Based on the nature of economy, services are provided by private or public organisations or both.
I hope this helps.
