Tetrahedral:- We know that in the hexagonal close packing or we can say HCP & cubic close packing or CCP in this each sphere with the first sphere touches to the second layer. Hence it leaves a little space that is known as tetrahedral site in chemistry.

Special Points:-

  • 1. It is also known as interstices.

  • 2. Tetrahedral void is the vacant space between 4 touching spheres.

  • 3. Tetrahedral sites are associated with the one sphere.

  • 4. There will be two tetrahedral sites in each interstices.
