 \sqrt{ - 4}  =  \sqrt{4}  \times  \sqrt{ - 1}  \\  \\ now \:  \:  \sqrt{ - 1}  = i \:  \: (iota) \\  \\ so \\  \\  \sqrt{ - 4}  =  \sqrt{4} i \\  \\  = 2i
