Thalamus is an old term in Botany, used to define the part of a flower which is particularly the thickened part of the stem also known as the receptacle or the torus.

This is the part from which flower organs grow. In some fruits like that of strawberry it is the thalamus which gives rise to the edible part of the fruit.
