Thalamus :

A typical flower has 4 different kinds of whorls arranged successively on the swollen end of stalk or pedicel, called thalamus .

Floral whorls are :

  1. Calyx
  2. corolla
  3. Androecium
  4. Gynoecium

The flower is borne over a stalk called pedicel. The tip of the pedicel is enlarged into two broad base called thalamus or receptacle which holds the flower parts.

(iv) Gynoecium
