What is the 20th term in the following geometric sequence?
–2, –6, –18, –54, –162, ...

Let,

t1 = a = -2 --------------(i)

d = t2 - t1

= -6 - (-2)

= -6 + 2

= -4 -------------------(ii)

Now,

tn = a+(n-1)d

from (i) & (ii)

tn = -2+(n-1)-4

for \:  {n}^{th}  \: term \: put \: n \:  = 20

t20 = -2 + (20-1) × (-4)

= -2 + 19 × -4

= -2 + 76

= 74

Ans : The 20th term of the following geometric sequence is 74.
