Every decimal number has two parts: whole number part and decimal part. To finding the square root of a decimal number, we use long division method and also follow these steps:

Step 1: Starting grouping the whole number part from right to left and the decimal part from the left to right. For example - 2 16 . 65 74 30

Step 2: If the decimal part contains odd number of digits, then insert a zero to make even number of digits before grouping For example, in 216. 65743, the number of digits in the decimal part is odd, i.e., 5. So insert a zero to its extreme right and make it 126, 657430. Then group the digits by putting a bar over each pair.

Step 3: Perform the division method as usual to find the root of given number.

Step 4: Place the decimal point in the quotient as soon as the whole part is over.
