Given :

  • Initial velocity, u = 0 m/s (starts from rest)
  • Final velocity, v = 20 m/s
  • Distance, s = 50 m
  • Time taken, t = 5 seconds

To find :

  • Acceleration, a

According to the question,

= + 2as

Where,

  • v = Final velocity
  • u = Initial velocity
  • a = Acceleration
  • s = Distance

➞ Substituting the values,

➞ (20)² = (0)² + 2 × a × 50

➞ 400 = 0 + 100a

➞ 400 - 0 = 100a

➞ 400 = 100a

➞ 400 ÷ 100 = a

➞ 4 = a

  • So, the acceleration of an object is 4 m/s².

Acceleration :

Acceleration of a body can be defined as the rate of change of velocity per unit time.

  • SI unit of acceleration is m/s².
  • Acceleration is vector quantity.
  • Formula : a = v - u/t
