Answer:

Abstract

The effect of the activation temperature on acid-base properties of alumina catalysts was studied. The acidity and basicity of catalysts were characterised by using the dynamic sorption method and by testing the catalyst activity in the depolymerisation of paraldehyde and decomposition of diacetone alcohol. For all catalysts, it was found that the acidity increases significantly with increasing activation temperature up to 550°C, whereas the basicity goes through a maximum at 140°C. The acidity of alumina increases with increasing surface dehydration. Maximum basicity corresponds to a surface covered completely with hydroxyl groups.
