Fourteen lanthanide complexes of 1-phenyl-3-(2-hydroxylphenyl)-2-propenone with thiosemicarbazone (HL) of the composition [LnL2]ClO4 have been prepared and characterized on the basis of their chemical analyses, magnetic measurements, conductance, visible and IR spectra, TG-DTA and XPS data. It was found that HL acts as an SNO tridentate ligand; the electronic spectra of Pr3+, Nd3+ and Sm3+ show characteristics f-f transitions and the nephelauxetic parameter (), the bonding parameter b) and covalency parameter (δ) have been evaluated.
