(a) Sodium reacts vigorously with cold water forming sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas.

Reaction: 2Na(s)+2H2O(l) → 2NaOH(aq) + H 2 (g) + heat

(b) Magnesium reacts with hot water to from magnesium hydroxide and hydrogen.

Reaction: Mg(s)+2H 2 O(l) → Mg(OH) 2 (aq) + H 2(g)

(c) Aluminium reacts with steam to form aluminium oxide and hydrogen gas.

Reaction: 2Al(s)+3H2 O(g) → Al 2 O3 (s) + 3H 2 (g)
