What is the advantage of a solenoid over an ordinary coil

Magnetic field due to the coil is directly proportional to the no. of turns of the coil.Ordinary coil has single turn only and solenoid has N no. of turns so magnetic field strength is more due to the solenoid than the ordinary coil.
