Hey..! here's ur answers....

Benefits of germplasm collection are :

i) Cell and tissue cultures of many plant species can be cryopreserved and maintained in a viable state for several years and used when required.

ii) Plant materials from endangered species can be conserved using this method.

iii) It is an ideal method for long term conservation of cell cultures producing secondary metabolites such as antibiotics.

iv) Recalcitrant seeds (seeds which loose their viability on storage) can be maintained for a long period of time

v) Disease free plant materials can be frozen and propagated whenever required.

vi) Conservation of somaclonal variations in cultures

vii) Rare germplasms developed by using somatic hybridization and other genetic manipulation techniques can be stored

viii) Pollen conservation for enhancing longevity

ix) Germplasm banks to facilitate the exchange of information at international level.

hope it helps...

Answer:

Germplasm collection is a collection of the varieties of all available alleles of all genes present in a crop plant species. Benefits of germplasm collection: Collection of the diverse germplasm ensures that plant breeders have the whole range of possible genetic variabilities of a crop plant.

What is the advantage of germplasm collection

Given :

What is the advantage of germplasm collection

Explanation:

Germplasm collection is a collection of live crop varieties and wild relatives with divers alleles of genes. A very good collection is helpful in picking up the desired trait for incorporation in new improved varieties.

Germplasm collection in simple terms means the collection of genes.

In germplasm collection the entire collection of plants or seeds having all the diverse alleles for all genes in a given crop is done.

• It is important to maintain biological diversity. Different varieties of genes are collected under the germplasm collection, thus, creating and maintaining biodiversity.

• The collection can be used in the future too. The genes are collected and stored and hence then can be used for the future need.

• It is important for food security too because the genes can be used for the production of desirable plant with good yield.

. Collection helps in tapping crop genetic diversity and assembling the same at one place. It reduces the loss of genetic due to genetic erosion.

. Sometimes, we get material of special interest during exploration trips.

. Sometimes, we come across a new plant species during the process of collection.

.Collection also helps in saving certain genotype from extinction. Once the material is collected, it can be maintained further in the germplasm.
