Whenever the extra current gets accumulated in the metallic body of any appliance, the earth wire transfers this current towards the earth. Which prevents us from electric shock. This takes place because earth is considered to be at zero.

• The main advantage of third wire earth connection in domestic electric appliances is to absorb the excess electricity passing through electrical appliance and in turn protects it from damage.

• At our home we may have many useful electrical appliances which are very costly too. They work with the help of electric current passes from respective transformers.
• Sometimes when high current passes through the transformers, if the earth wire connection is absent it will lead to overflow of electricity inside the electrical appliance and thus damages it.  

• On the other hand if we have earth wire connection, it will absorb the excess flow of current and sends it down to the ground.
