Take a firearms safety course.
Take a hunter safety course whether it's a requirement in your area or not.
Buy a rifle (or bow) that isn't top of the line and in a caliber like .308 that you can get cheap ammo for practice then practice until that gun is an extension of your arm and all the bugs are worked out before that monster walks out in range.
You don't need a Nightforce or Leupold optic to start with. A Burris or Nikon at less than half the price will do the job until you can justify the $1000 and up price of the good stuff. Do upgrade the scope before the rifle. The high end optics are one of the few things worth the money. Honestly, you can do quite well with iron sights with good eyes and practice but a scope is still the best option. I almost forgot to say get top quality mounts and rings. A Zeiss is worthless in cheap mounts.
Find an experienced hunting buddy. This saves learning everything the hard way.
Get good quality camo and as much Hunter Orange as you can pack. Don't worry about every gimmick. Most deer lure is actually hunter lure. Some do work but just keeping yourself and your clothes as scent free as possible works best.
This is just a continuation of the previous remark. Always be conscious of wind direction. It only takes a few scent molecules hitting deer olfactory and your deer hauls tail.
Find your area and scout it until you can walk in and out in the dark.
Just stay in the woods and sit still. You'll learn more from just sitting and watching than any other thing.
Be safe!
