Hello there!!
I'm Rajdeep...
The CFCs deplete the ozone layer of the atmosphere, hence they are now-a-days, very rarely used as refrigerant.
Anhydrous ammonia is a good refrigerant. So alternative to CFCs are ammonia, HCFCs(Hydro Chloro Fluoro Carbons) and HFCs(Hydro Fluoro Carbons).... since HFC does not have any chlorine atom, it is widely used.....
The Ostwald process is used in the manufacture of nitric acid in industries by the catalytic oxidation of ammonia in presence of platinum as catalyst. So the oxidizing agent is of course oxygen of the air, which first oxidizes NH3 to NO and then again oxidizes NO to NO2 and then again oxidizes NO2 to HNO3...
The reactions are:
4NH3 + 5O2 --------> 4NO + 6H2O
2NO + O2 ------> 2NO2
4NO2 + 2H2O + O2 ------> 4HNO3
