When this mixture is heated, they undergo chemical reaction and form ferrous sulphide (FeS). This compound cannot be separated by a magnet.

when iron powder is heated with sulphur, they together form a compound named iron sulphide
Fe + S gives FeS which is black in colour. it loses properties of ferrous and sulphur both.
