Answer:

a. Speed does not have direction (scalar quantity). So, steepest slope is answer. Thus, the particle has maximum speed in the time interval between -1 seconds and 1 seconds.

b. Average Velocity = (Final Displacement - Initial Displacement)/(Final Time - Initial time)

= (-1m - (+1m))/(5s - (-5s)) = -2m/10s = -1/5 m/s

c. Average Speed = Total Distance/Total Time

= (2m + 1m + 8m + 2m + 1m)/(5 -(-5))s  [No negative distance, as it is a scalar quantity]

= 14m/10s = 1.4 m/s

d. Velocity = Displacement/time

Velocity in  2s to 3s = (2m - (-4m))/(3s - 2s)

= 2m/1s = 2m/s

Velocity in 3s to 4s = (-1m - (-2m))/(4s - 3s)

= 1m/1s = 1m/s

Ratio = 2:1

e. When there is no change in the coordinate of x(t) axis (displacement), the displacement is 0 in that time interval. Velocity = Displacement/time = 0/time = 0 m/s. Thus, velocity is 0 in -5s to -4s interval, and also in 4s to 5s interval.
