The answer to your question is Solar Energy (Sun)
A food chain always starts from Solar energy.
The plants utilise this energy to make their food by the process of photosynthesis.
All other living organisms directly or indirectly depend upon plants for their survival.
You may say a tiger? how does a tiger depend upon a plant.
Think of it that if deer did not exist tigers would not exist.
If plants did not exist deer will also not exist.
Hence if plants did not exist there will be no tigers too.
In fact no organism would survive without plants............
Only anaerobic bacteria can survive cause they do not need oxygen.....
But if sun did not exist then no life would exist , not even plants.
Sun is the first member of any food chain....
