6 + x - x²

on rearranging,

- x² + x + 6 = 0,

a = coefficient of x² = (-1)

b = coefficient of x = 1

c = constant term = 6

Now using formula,

D = b² - 4ac

= 1² - (4 × (-1) × 6)

= 1 - ( -24)

= 1 + 24 = 25

thus,

√D = √25 = 5

Ths solutions for equation are :

-b - √D - 1 - 5

α = ---------- = ------------- = -3

2a 2 × 1

-b +√D -1 + 5

β = --------- = ----------- = 2

2a 2 × 1

thus the solution for the equation is -3 and 2
