Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here...
Earthing is a very important process which provides safety.. The earth wire is connected to the metallic case of the appliance. Suppose due to break of insulation or any other reason, if the live wire comes in contact with the metal case of the body, the current will get a zero resistance path to flow. Thus, a heavy current will flow through the earth wire to the earth, the fuse will melt and save the appliance from damage. If the earth wire and the fuse were not present and the live wire came in contact with the metallic case of the appliance, and if you touched the appliance, then indirectly you would have come in contact with the live wire and get a fatal shock.
The process of earthing is also used to make a charge body lose its charge.
Thanks!
