The Archimedes principle states that when an object is immersed in water partially or fully it experiences a forces in the upward direction and displaces water equal to the object's weight.

The cork has a density lower than that of water whereas the iron nail has a density higher han that of water. Hence, the cork floats and the nail sinks.
