Given : Trapezium whose parallel sides are 12 cm and 16 cm and whose height is equal to that of equilateral triangle of side√3.

To Find : Area of trapezium

Solution :

Trapezium is a shape with four sides in which one set of two opposite sides are parallel and other set are not parallel.

Area of trapezium is given by : \frac{1}{2} ×(sum of two parallel sides) × (Distance between them)

Equilateral triangle is a triangle with all sides are equal and angles are 60°.

Height of equilateral triangle is : \frac{\sqrt{3} }{2} a where a is side length

a = \sqrt{3} cm

Therefore, height of trapezium : \frac{\sqrt{3} }{2} × √3 = \frac{3}{2}

Therefore, area of trapezium =

= \frac{1}{2} × (12 + 16) × \frac{3}{2}

= \frac{1}{2} × 28 × \frac{3}{2}

= 7 × 3

= 21 cm^{2}

Therefore, Area of trapezium is 21 cm^{2}.
