Step-by-step explanation:

Let the rectangle be ABCD.

Area of rectangle = l × b = 6 × 3 = 18 cm²

Area of triangle ADF = 1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × DF × AD

(DF = DC – FC = 6 – 2 = 4 cm)

= 1/2 × 4 × 3

= 6 cm²

Are of triangle ABE = 1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × AB × BE

(BE = BC – EC = 3 – 2 = 1 cm)

= 1/2 × 6 × 1

= 3 cm²

Area of figure AECF = ar(ABCD) – ar(ADF+ABE)

= 18 – ( 6 + 3 )

= 18 – 9

= 9 cm²

Therefore, area of the shaded portion is 9cm².
