Answer:

First let us consider the club and the ball as a system in order to use conservation of momentum

Mass of the club - M = 250g

Mass of the ball - m = 50g

Initial velocity of club = 40m/s

Final velocity of club = v

Initial velocity of ball = 0m/s

Final velocity of ball = 40m/s

Using conservation of momentum for club ball system

Initial momentum of system = final momentum of the system

250*(40) = (250*v) + (50*40)

10000 = 250v + 2000

v = 8000/250 = 32m/s (clubs final velocity)

Average force on ball = (change in balls momentum) /time taken for change

Average force = (50g*40m/s)/(0.5ms) = 4000N
