Answer:

The simplest & most comman way to reduce backlash in pair of gears is to the distance between there centers .

Explanation:

This move the gears into a tighter mesh with low or even zero clearances between teeth

Answer:

In a screw gauge , the screw fitted in the end loosens up as a result of which the space increases. The loosening up is also caused due to the rough use which causes wear and tear of the screw gauge.

So due to the loosening up of screw, when it is rotated very fast to tighten up some gear, it slips into the nut causing measurement error.

This phenomenon is called backlash error.

To reduce the backlash error, the distance between the centre of a pair of gear has to be minimised to push the gear into a mesh more tighter. This eliminates the backlash error.
