The backlash error is the error in the screw gauge .When the screw is rotated very fast for measurement and taking readings for the same . There is some slipping caused between different screws .

Explanation:

Reduction of backlash error and be done by :-

By minimizing the distance between the center of a pair of gear  by pushing the gear into the mesh more tightly .

Talking about the term backlash error , the error caused in the gears from jamming together and making contact on both sides of the screw or gears  simultaneously .

Sometimes due to wear and tear of threads of screw, it is observed that on reversing the direction of rotation of thimble, the tip of the screw does not start moving in the opposite direction of rotation at once but it remains stationary for a part of rotation. This causes error in the observation which is called backlash error
